Andrew acts for shipowners, charterers, cargo interests and their respective insurers. He has also received instructions from port operators, ship yards, ship brokers and shipmanagers.

Andrew provides advice on non-contentious marine matters generally and has particular experience of assisting on high-value ship sale and purchase transactions as well as ship and other asset-based financings and leasing arrangements, ship and yacht building contracts and associated documentation.

Andrew's broad contentious experience encompasses the full range of disputes arising in relation to the international carriage of goods by sea, but has also developed expertise in handling disputes arising under contracts for the sale and purchase of vessels.

Andrew’s experience includes litigation arising from marine casualties, in particular vessel groundings and claims relating to port safety, as well as the provision of salvage services, the supply of vessels and equipment for offshore projects and disputes arising under contracts of marine insurance.

He has also particular experience of drafting, negotiating and litigating a range of commercial shipping agreements, including various standard form contracts for the shipping and offshore sectors, including the BIMCO Saleform and Supplytime.

Andrew’s experience includes:

  • Advising buyers and sellers on the sale and purchase of almost every type of commercial vessel and yacht, including those being sold by judicial sale and on behalf of companies in administration

  • Advising a group company on the reorganisation of its corporate structure and on a series of significant debt facilities and re-financings secured by a range of corporate and vessel security

  • Advising the owners of a specialist off shore unit in a substantial dispute with their buyers under the terms of a memorandum of agreement

  • Advising owners following the overheating on board of a large quantity of agricultural cargo, dealing with the subsequent cargo claims arising in Iran as well as the charterparty recovery

  • Advising owners following a serious casualty and CTL of a container vessel following an explosion of a cargo of mis-declared calcium hypochlorite and subsequent  fire

  • Advising VLCC owners in relation to certain high value disputes arising from a series of pooling arrangements

  • Advising cargo interests on a series of claims for damage to refrigerated cargoes arising under a contract of affreightment, including the negotiation of security for the claims and the eventual settlements
