William Chetwood graduated in Law from Southampton University. He joined Bentleys, Stokes and Lowless in 1987 after over 10 years experience with another maritime law firm in London. He was made a partner in 1988.

William has a wide range of experience in the maritime, insurance and international trade spheres including:-

 Advising on ship finance, sale and ship construction contracts and on disputes arising thereunder;

 Advising on disputes arising out of marine casualties;

 Advising on and handling litigation and arbitration arising out of unsafe port claims;

 Advising and handling arbitration and litigation arising out of charterparty and bill of lading
     contracts;

 Arrest of vessels and other assets for security and enforcement purposes;

 Advising in connection with insurance policy disputes;

 Advising in relation to wreck removal contracts;

 Multi-party disputes;

 Disputes concerning multi jurisdictional aspects;

 Sale of goods disputes, including commodity arbitrations;

 Cargo claims and defence;

 Disputes involving shipbrokers.

William is a supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators’ Association.
