Vernon Sewell graduated from Warwick University and holds a Masters degree in Law from the University of London. He joined Bentleys, Stokes and Lowless in 1982 and became a partner in 1986.

He has a broad shipping and marine insurance litigation and arbitration practice but with a particular emphasis on:-

 Representation of ship and ship insurers in complex casualty incidents;

 Representation of ship and ship insurers in relation to fatality and personal injury claims;

 Total and constructive total loss of ship claims;

 Dangerous cargoes, fire and explosion cases;

 Defence of complex cargo claims;

 Bad bunker claims;

 Disputes under contracts of sale regarding the quality of oil and derivatives;

 Disputes under long term contracts of affreightment and joint venture agreements;

 Disputes under MOAs for the sale and purchase of ships;

 Jurisdictional issues arising from multi forum litigation.

Vernon has presented seminars and workshops on a range of subjects particular to his special areas of practice.
