Paul graduated with a degree in physics from Oxford before completing his Common Professional Examination and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London. He joined Bentleys in 1999 as a qualified solicitor and became a partner in 2008.

Paul has a broad "dry" maritime practice, consisting predominantly of P&I and defence work. He is experienced in arbitration, mediation and commercial litigation at all levels, in particular:-

 Acting in relation to all aspects of cargo claims, mainly on behalf of ship interests, both in the
     Commercial Court and in arbitration;

 A wide variety of charterparty work, including in particular substantial experience of
     demurrage/detention and redelivery disputes, and charterers' liability to hull work, on behalf
     of owners and charterers in both the Commercial Court and arbitration and including cases
     involving substantial questions of limitation of liability;

 Prosecuting and defending personal injury and property damage claims on board ferry vessels,
     acting on behalf of both claimants and ferry operators;

Advising in relation to disputes arising out of MOAs;

Advising in relation to disputes arising out of CMR and domestic road haulage conditions;

Advising in respect of and acting in enforcement of foreign judgments in the UK.

Away from the office, Paul is often to be found supporting Northampton Saints rugby club or in one of his many local pubs, sampling their varieties of real ales. He also practices the Korean martial art of Taekwon-do, in which he holds a black belt.
