Nicholas Wilson graduated from the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology with an Honours degree in law in 1988. He thereafter completed the Law Society finals course at the College of Law in Guildford and joined Bentleys, Stokes and Lowless upon qualification as a solicitor in October 1991. He became a partner in 1999.

He has acted in a wide range of dry shipping matters whilst at the firm including:-

 Advising and acting on behalf of claimants and defendants in connection with cargo claims;

 Arrest of vessels for security and enforcement purposes in England and abroad;

 High Court litigation and arbitration in connection with charterparty and bill of lading contracts;

 Laytime and demurrage disputes;

 Liability for fire as between owners/charterers;

 Bad bunker disputes;

 Speed and consumption claims including liability for bottom fouling;

 Indemnity claims;

 Advising on marine insurance and cover related issues;

 Recovery of unpaid calls and premia.
