After graduating in law from the University of Southampton in 2002, Ian spent just over two years working at Lloyd's of London as a case manager in Lloyd's Open Form salvage arbitrations. Ian then completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Guildford, before joining a London shipping law firm whereupon he qualified as a solicitor in March 2007.

Ian joined Bentleys in July 2007 and has gained experience in a wide range of areas:

 Disputes arising under Time/Voyage Charterparties and bills of lading, including disputes
     involving freight, laytime/demurrage, off-hire, redelivery and cargo claims;

Disputes arising under Letters of Indemnity;

Marine insurance disputes;

Ship sale and purchase disputes;

Disputes involving assessment and causation of damages following a collision;

Lloyd's Open Form salvage arbitrations and general average issues;

 Mediation, arbitration and litigation involving multiple parties and complex multi jurisdictional
     aspects;

Obtaining security for all types of maritime claim.

Ian also has experience of non-contentious work, in particular involving:

Sale, purchase and registration of vessels;

Ship finance;

Ship construction contracts.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys running, tennis and football and is a big Everton fan.
